Through Fluttering Skies, I explore the invisible ways love continues to exist after loss. Since losing my mother, I have found her presence in the smallest, most unexpected moments: discovering something of hers tucked away in a drawer, a butterfly crossing my path at a meaningful time, or hearing my son speak of her through his dreams. These moments remind me that connection can endure beyond physical presence, finding new ways to accompany us.
Inspired by the fluid, organic forms of the butterflies in my Rising Souls resin series, I translate these shapes into chromed metal. Their reflective surfaces interact with light and their surroundings, creating shifting reflections and delicate shadows that transform the installation throughout the day.
For me, Fluttering Skies is about living beneath a sky that still flutters with the spirit of someone I love. It is about a connection that is no longer tangible, yet continues to move through my life in ways both subtle and profound. Through this installation, I invite viewers to consider the people they carry within them, and the quiet, unexpected ways love continues to find us long after goodbye.
